Visiting Lecture Series

From November 3 to 7, 2025, Professor Han-Young Yoon, Associate Professor specializing in Thermohydraulics at the Department of NPP Engineering, KEPCO International Nuclear Graduate School (KINGS), visited the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU).

Professor Yoon earned his degrees from some of the most prestigious institutions in Asia such Seoul National University (SNU), the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), and the University of Tokyo. Over his career, he has worked at leading research and academic institutions, including the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) and, most recently, KINGS.

He is a recipient of the Prime Minister’s Award (2018) and the Academic Award of the Korean Nuclear Society (2013). Professor's main research areas include the safety and performance analysis of nuclear reactors and the development of the CUPID code.

During his stay at CTU, Professor Yoon delivered a series of lectures on advanced thermohydraulic analysis of nuclear reactors, offering participants a hands-on introduction to the CUPID code, which is used for 3D simulations of APR1400 and OPR1000 reactors.

The lectures were attended by experts and researchers from the nuclear field, as well as students from CTU. We are delighted by the strong interest and positive feedback from attendees, and we look forward to welcoming Professor Yoon again in the future.

KINGS at the 15th Nuclear Days Conference

KINGS has become a platinum partner of the 15th Nuclear Days conference, held on September 10–11, 2025, at the Faculty of Applied Sciences of the University of West Bohemia.

This year’s theme, Nuclear Energy and Europe’s Energy Security, attracted distinguished speakers such as Tomáš Ehler (Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, responsible for nuclear energy), Petr Závodský (CEO of Dukovany II Power Plant) or Alois Míka (advisor to KHNP).

KINGS has presented a promotional kiosk where visitors could find out more about the university and its programs. Students could also get more information about this year's admission guidelines and student life, not only from the representatives from KINGS, but also from one of the university’s successful absolvents, Jan Hruškovič, who had been a part of the neighboring kiosk by FNC.

We greatly appreciated the strong interest in our activities and the warm support shown to both KINGS and the newly opened NCC. It was equally rewarding to stand behind our alumni who also presented during the conference.

Czech Korean NCC was opened!

We've just opened a Czech–Korean Nuclear Collaboration Center at Czech Technical University in Prague with KEPCO International Nuclear Graduate School

What's hidden inside Nuclear Collaboration Center (NCC)?

It's a space, where professors, researchers and students from Korea will have professional facilities through the NCC for preparing work and lectures during their stay here.

“Nuclear research and education in Korea are at a top level, so the transfer of knowledge from our Korean partners is enormously valuable for us. By opening the center we will help not only in sharing information, but also in the exchange of students and staff,” adds Dr. Jan Rataj, Head of the Department of Nuclear Reactors at FNSPE CTU.

Together with our Korean partners, we presented the goals and possibilities of the NCC and the overall Czech–Korean collaboration in the nuclear field.

Representatives of CTU and KINGS also signed an addendum to the memorandum of cooperation between the two universities, expanding the number of student and staff exchanges and formally defining the functions and competencies of the NCC.

We look forward to future cooperation!

Alumni president Ondřej Kořistka

Ondřej Kořistka, a graduate of the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering at CTU and current president of the Czech and Slovak alumni of the Kepco International Nuclear Graduate School (KINGS), took part in the first summer school (Nuclear Summer Youth Program) organized by KINGS in South Korea in August 2022.

“What impressed me the most was the tour of the fuel manufacturing facility and the chance to visit the control room of the Saeul power plant, which looked completely different from
those in Europe. It was also striking that the school was located directly within the power plant site. I was fascinated by the Korean approach, mostly their diligence, perseverance, and unshakable belief in success,” says Ondřej.

According to him, the experience opened his eyes not only professionally but also personally. “It was inspiring to see how the same things are done elsewhere. You realize how many professions and positions are involved in the operation,” he adds. Professionally, Ondřej Kořistka focuses on radiation physics and dosimetry. He teaches at CTU as well as at a secondary school and enjoys popularizing physics among students and the general public. He therefore sees KINGS as an excellent opportunity for other young professionals: “I actively recommend the program. It’s a great way to step out of established routines, gain a broader perspective, and realize how connected everything is.” If he had the chance to return, he wouldn’t hesitate. “Definitely yes, ideally as part of a work internship,” he concludes.
