Alumni President Ondřej Kořistka
During our first Czech alumni meeting, the student affair staff chose an alumni president to help with events, updating our student database, and keeping in touch with alumni. Let's find out more about him!
Ondřej Kořistka, a graduate of the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering at CTU and current president of the Czech and Slovak alumni of the Kepco International Nuclear Graduate School (KINGS), took part in the first summer school (Nuclear Summer Youth Program) organized by KINGS in South Korea in August 2022.
“What impressed me the most was the tour of the fuel manufacturing facility and the chance to visit the control room of the Saeul power plant, which looked completely different from those in Europe. It was also striking that the school was located directly within the power plant site. I was fascinated by the Korean approach, mostly their diligence, perseverance, and unshakable belief in success,” says Ondřej.
According to him, the experience opened his eyes not only professionally but also personally. “It was inspiring to see how the same things are done elsewhere. You realize how many professions and positions are involved in the operation,” he adds. Professionally, Ondřej Kořistka focuses on radiation physics and dosimetry. He teaches at CTU as well as at a secondary school and enjoys popularizing physics among students and the general public. He therefore sees KINGS as an excellent opportunity for other young professionals: “I actively recommend the program. It’s a great way to step out of established routines, gain a broader perspective, and realize how connected everything is.” If he had the chance to return, he wouldn’t hesitate. “Definitely yes, ideally as part of a work internship,” he concludes.
